A Letter From ‘A Hot Set’s’ New Film Editor
A Hot Set previously announced the appointment of Mia Riedel as the Film Editor.
Mia started her role as the Film Editor on July 3rd, 2023. With experience in editorial leadership, Mia brings advanced knowledge in practical writing, editing, and journalism. To that end, here is an open letter outlining her mission and content strategy.
“As the entertainment industry has become enriched with content created for and by people of color, journalism remains stuck in proving that these narratives counter the racism faced in modern society, overlooking how this content betters the communities it comes from. People of color do not create media just to get back at a larger white society, rather, we create media to uplift one another and accurately represent our stories. Rather than focusing on the general opinions of films, which often exclude perspectives from people of color, journalism should strive to provide content that explores and discusses the work of people of color within the entertainment industry in a productive manner through writing content that engages with communities of color.
At A Hot Set, we provide the facts about the state of the entertainment industry, and we specifically look at people of color within the industry to provide content that informs our readership of data-supported industry trends. In doing so, we generate content that highlights the works created by communities of color, giving a business-oriented platform solely to people of color in the industry.
As Film Editor, I aim to ensure that A Hot Set provides content that informs readers of the industry trends that pertain to the media created by people of color to make a platform that provides our communities with direct and unbiased information.”
A Hot Set's objective is to present a range of content covering the business of the entertainment industry for people of color. Under Mia's purview as the Film Editor is responsible for curating content covering a wide range of topics from the awards and festival circuit to all things film and the corporate side of the entire entertainment industry.
